AUGUST 2011 E-ZINE
Vacation is over, autumn nears, and the road beckons. After some time away in northern New England as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway, I am gearing up to bring new songs and new projects to new people and new places. We're offering the biggest sale ever on CDs and downloads for the rest of August, 60% off just for letting me continue to stay in touch once a month. If it's been too long since our paths crossed in person, please join us to kick off the autumn tour with a live video webcast with the band on Wednesday Aug. 24.
NOTE: After this post-vacation issue the E-Zine returns to regular early-in-the-month delivery in September.

3. BEYOND BORDERS VIDEO WEBCAST AUG. 24th
It's been over a year since Andrew and Beyond Borders bandmates Stephanie and Les Thompson and Lisa Taylor have appeared live to the world from their homebase at Cabin Studios. So with some new songs, new arrangements and new tricks up their sleeve, Andrew will kick off his autumn tour calendar with his bandmates in a live webcast from the studio next Wednesday Aug. 24th at around 9:30pm Eastern Time. They will do a full set, likely take a request or two via the Chat room, and even perhaps sit and answer a few questions on camera after the performance.
So please tune in - http://andrewmcknight.net/vidcast has links to the UStream.tv video feed as well as ways to watch and share on Facebook and Twitter. We look forward to seeing you!

IN MY EARS
As a musician and a songwriter, I try to keep feeding my creative side a steady eclectic diet of excellent and occasionally unusual music. I often get asked in interviews about my influences as a songwriter and/or guitarist, so perhaps it's of interest to share some of what I'm currently enjoying and thus starting this month I'll share a link for you to enjoy.
Johnny Smith is probably my favorite jazz guitarist, and lately I've been trying to cop some of these chordal melodies and licks that he moves through so tastefully. I think the high-speed crazy single-string runs will elude me for awhile longer :) This is an audio only, but it's the 1952 classic that I believe was a mainstream pop hit beyond the realm of jazz. It's easy on the ears, and hell on the fingers.

ANDREW'S ESSAY: "Guitars and Getaways"
The links between the places we go and the work we create.
"I realized the other day that my friends who've seen pictures of our various family escapades this summer might think we've been on vacation the whole time. It is true that we have been many places - after all, Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive are but an hour away and a great place for half day hikes and all day trips. It's been a Blue Ridge-themed summer for sure.
The reality is that a lot of work was stuffed into the places between visiting places. And really, in my line of work, working for oneself, does one ever truly stop working? My take on this might surprise you; I hope that I am always working.. . ."
