ANDREW McKNIGHT E-ZINE
Another busy month of shows punctuated with some fun new programs and workshops I've been working on. This month's essay reflects on a curious intersection of thoughts about Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison and Doc Watson. And whether you've waited patiently, or less than so, we finally have a free download from the live recording for you - right here, right now. We're planning another vidcast in time for the Christmas holidays, most likely Tues. Dec. 13th, but watch the website for details. Oh yeah, the new website will be ready as soon as we stop doing all this other stuff and put the finishing touches on it. Whew! Hope you enjoy it, and as always, we'd love to hear from you here or on Facebook.

2. NEW WORKSHOPS & PROGRAMS
Music is a wonderful medium for many things - learning, communicating, connecting, and of course directly interacting. Andrew has developed several new thematic programs and workshops on a variety of topics, suitable for schools, libraries, corporate and non-profit events, keynote presentations, and Sunday music services.
You'll see some of these activities on the tour itinerary above - in addition to a couple upcoming Special Music Services in Unitarian churches, there's a Performance Lab workshop near Pittsburgh to help inexperienced performers take command of the stage, a Panel discussion at the NERFA conference in New York on building venue audiences in the era of social media, and a workshop here near home to help intermediate guitar players learn to flatpick melodies to fiddle tunes.
So we now have a lot of options for folks who'd like to help us bring Andrew's music to your community. We can also design a day or up to a week of a variety of activities combining time in schools, and working with musicians, writers and local arts businesses as well as doing a concert. We'd love to see what might be possible in your neighborhood, so come take a look at http://andrewmcknight.net/programs

3. FREE DOWNLOAD OF "SAFE HOME"
At long last, the One Virginia Night live CD and DVD from Andrew McKnight & Beyond Borders nears completion. The audio is finished, and the video in the final stages. And because you let us send you the E-Zine, you get the first finished teaser from the CD before anyone else. Download it here (use the email address you get this E-Zine at to avoid duplication):

Always a crowd favorite at solo shows, "Safe Home" has also been a staple of the band's repertoire. Stephanie and Lisa add lovely and haunting harmonies, and Lisa's drums give the track a wonderful energy and a more roots-rock groove.

"IN MY EARS"
My friend Chance McCoy has been touring the US and UK over the past year with his duo Old Sledge, but he's getting ready to embark on a new solo phase of his career, combining his fine and fancy oldtime fiddle playing along with some of his own compositions on fiddle, banjo and guitar. You may remember Chance's fine contributions as 1/4th of my Something Worth Standing For recording ensemble. Here is a video of Chance leading a quartet, onstage in London for the BBC along with Alison Williams on banjo, Danny Knicely on guitar (check out what he does at about 1:40 of this video :) and Aimee Curl on bass. hope you enjoy this version of "Rocky Road to Dublin";

And for friends here near home in northern Virginia, Chance makes his solo concert debut at the Shenandoah Coffeehouse Series in Leesburg Sat. Nov. 12th.

ANDREW'S ESSAY: "Jobs, Careers and Legacies"
Thoughts on genius, talent and history written the day after Apple founder Steve Jobs passed away.
"It is interesting and inspiring seeing the wave of posts, remembrances and editorials this morning about Steve Jobs. I am reading them on a device that was spawned from his imagination, connected to the world by a network that he had envisioned, and loaded with hundreds of tools that I use so routinely that I can't imagine how I would manage without them.
The most frequent comparison being made of course is with an American genius of a hundred years ago, Thomas Edison. I can't even condense Edison's legacy into a sentence or paragraph. . ."
