We are excited that "Made by Hand" (click link for free download) appears in two sections of the new documentary Low Coal, produced by Jordan Freeman along with Executive Producer Mari-Lynn Evans (producer of the 3-part PBS series The Appalachians as well as last year's Coal Country).
The film is largely focused on the heated conflict in the southern West Virginia coalfields over mountaintop removal and its devastating impacts on the region's landscape, people and economy through the eyes and words of the residents, miners, government officials and activists (most of whom fit more than one of those labels) involved in the struggles. You can preview and share the entire film (explicit language dots the film periodically) simply for sharing your email address at lowcoalexplicit.com.
"Made by Hand" was written by Andrew along with Beyond Borders bandmate Les Thompson and WV state fiddle champ Chance McCoy (Old Sledge). The song appears in two places, early on during footage of the autumn 2010 "Rising Appalachia" protests in DC , and towards the end of the film during the heartwrenching segue into Massey Energy's Upper Big Branch mine disaster.
Jordan is currently raising money to finish the production, and we encourage you to lend a hand and/or some dollars - and reserve your DVD in advance too.
